Adapt the grid to a diagnostic assessment
For reading, try criteria such as “find an explicit fact” and “rephrase an instruction”. For grammar, try “identify the verb in a sentence”; for conjugation, “use the present tense correctly”. These are editable examples, not a prescribed grade curriculum.
After entry, the list of pupils marked “Not yet” on a skill can help you plan a practice group. “Not assessed” stays separate: it means an observation remains, not a confirmed need.
Moving from a Word or Excel table
Paste a pupil or skills list, or preview a CSV before importing, then print the new grid as a PDF. Existing marks in Word or Excel documents are not read automatically; enter or check observations in the grid.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the skills tracker free?
- Yes. You can start a grid without an account or paid subscription.
- What does “Not assessed” mean?
- It is the initial or cleared state of a cell. It does not mean the pupil failed the skill.
- Can I open my grid on another device?
- Guest work stays on this device. A free account lets you explicitly save your grid to the account and reopen it on another device.
- Can this replace a Word or Excel table?
- You can paste lists or preview a CSV, then create an editable grid and print it as a PDF. The tool does not automatically read existing observations from Word or Excel files.
